Free Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, in partnership with Project STOMP, is pleased to offer YMHFA trainings in Iowa. Trainings are open to ISU Extension and Outreach staff and interested community members. Space is limited. Register below.

Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches adults who work with 12-18-year old youth the skills they need to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health issues, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Eating disorders
  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
  • Substance use problems

This course will teach you how to apply the ALGEE action plan:

  • Assess for risk of suicide or harm
  • Listen nonjudgmentally
  • Give reassurance and information
  • Encourage appropriate professional help
  • Encourage self-help and other support strategies
